Mercy Crew Learn to Row Programs – Summer 2020

For students entering Grades 6-12, who are attending or plan to attend Our Lady of Mercy, interested in learning to row for Mercy Crew. No prior rowing experience is necessary. Using ergs and eight-person boats the sweep rowing technique (using one oar) will be taught along with rowing concepts & terminology and proper safety. The eight person boat creates a balanced environment to learn the mechanics of the rowing stroke. Participants will learn boat and oar handling techniques in small-group sessions with the help of experienced Mercy Crew coaches and rowers.

HS Learn to Row

For: New Rowers entering Grades 8-12, who are attending or plan to attend Our Lady of Mercy
(Students who plan to row for Mercy Crew in the Fall are STRONGLY encouraged to attend at least one session)
Session 1
(2 wks):  July 6 – July 17 – 10:00am-12:00pm
Session 2
(2 wks):  August 24 – September 4 – 10:00am-12:00pm
GWC Boathouse
Cost: $225/session
(if attending Session 1, Session 2 is no additional charge)

Modified Learn to Row
For: New Rowers entering Grades 6-7, who are attending or plan to attend Our Lady of Mercy
Session 1 (1 wk):  July 6 – July 10  – 10:00am-12:00pm
Session 2
(1 wk):  August 24 – August 28 – 10:00am-12:00pm
GWC Boathouse
Cost: $150/session


Mercy Crew Learn to Scull Program

For: Current Mercy Crew Rowers entering Grades 9-12 with at least one year of rowing experience
Session 1 (2 wks):  July 6 -July 17 – 8:00am-9:30am
Session 2 (2 wks):  August 24 – September 4 – 8:00am-9:30am

Cost: $175/session

Take your rowing to the next level by learning to scull this summer! Sculling introduces sweep rowers to the skills and fun of rowing in smaller boats while managing two oars to propel the boat. Participants will learn boat and oar handling techniques in small-group sessions. Types of sculling boats/ events include a single 1x, a double 2x or a quad 4x. Current rowers need to have one year of rowing experience behind them in order begin sculling, so even Fall Novices can participate!
