For those of you who have followed Mercy Crew for a few years, you may remember Elaine Zack. We learned earlier today that she passed away last week. For those who may not know Elaine Zack, she was an inspirational woman, and we want to share a little story from the February 2011 Ergatta to provide insight on this beautiful spirit known to many.
Mercy Crew Ergatta Story from February 2011:
The most inspirational row of the day belonged to 80 year-old Elaine Zack. Coached by her husband of nearly 60 years, Stanley, Zack rowed a personal best time of 11:23.2. She has in the past been ranked among the top rowers in the world for her age group. A medal winner in cycling and running as well at the Empire State Games, Zack has been featured on National Public Radio and in Prevention magazine, and recognized by Lifespan with “The Second Half of Life Hero Award.” Continuing her mission to educate and inspire both young and older to be physically active, Zack finished her race to a standing ovation.
Please keep Elaine, her husband of 66 years, Stanley, and the rest of their family in your thoughts and prayers. Here is the link to her obituary from the D&C (picture from Feb 2011):
