Roelant rowed and coached in Amsterdam (Skoll), Buffalo (West Side Rowing Club and City Honors) and Rochester. Teams coached won gold, silver and bronze medals at NY States Championship, and gold and bronze medals at Scholastic Nationals. Athletes coached have represented the US on junior national teams. Roelant has the equivalent of US Rowing level III coaching certification, and is certified in CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross. Holds a NY State Safe Boater Certificate. Besides coaching and rowing, he is working to obtain a Ph.D. in linguistics at SUNY Buffalo. |
Heather began rowing at the University of Rhode Island. Competed in sweep and sculling events for U.R.I. for four years at the Head of the Charles, Head of the Connecticut, New England Collegiate Championships, and Dad Vail regattas. Began coaching for Brighton Rowing Club in the fall of 2003. Coached the varsity girls’ team from spring 2004 through spring 2007. Highlights of the team’s competitive success include 12th place at US Rowing’s Youth Invite in the women’s double in 2005, gold at NY State High School Championships in women’s scholastic junior 4+ in 2004 and women’s scholastic double in 2005, silver in the women’s club eight in 2004 and women’s single in 2005, and bronze in the women’s club eight in 2004 and 2006. Coached the modified sculling program during the fall 2007 season. Earned US Rowing Level III coaching certification in 2005. Certified in CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross. Holds a NY State Safe Boater Certificate. Has competed with the GWC Masters’ program at Canadian Henley, Row Ontario Masters Championships, FISA World Masters, US Rowing Masters Championships, and the Head of the Charles. During the summer of 2006 earned gold in the women’s quad and bronze in the women’s open double representing the Western Division in the Empire State Games, and gold in the women’s B8 at FISA World Rowing Masters regatta. Also enjoys raising two young children, knitting, reading and sailing. |

Coach Kate |
Kate was a member of the Brighton High School varsity crew team from 2002 to 2005. She graduated from SUNY Oswego in May 2010 with a B.S. in Wellness Management and Health Science, and is currently on the job market and living with her boyfriend, Jason in Rochester. Her experience in sports nutrition and health promotion will be beneficial in helping Mercy Crew stay dynamic and strong. Kate has participated in nutritional education programs, including sports nutrition, meal planning and sanitation. She has supervised residential housing and implemented activity planning for high schoolers at the summer visual arts programs at SUNY Fredonia. Kate has been involved with community organizations like animal rescue group Pilots N Paws, Oswego Animal Shelter, and Adopt-A-Grandparent. She has been on the Dean's List and has also obtained Dean's Scholarships. Kate proudly achieved her First Dan Black Belt in the martial art of TaeKwonDo in 2001. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, biking, attending live concerts, and traveling. |
